Age Distributions from Cause of Death Statistics in Korea

Abstract
The study presents the parameters of Weibull distributions from ages at death of reported cases during 1984-88. And also the study investigates the proportions of cumulative hazard rates of seven leading causes to those of all causes. Data was obtained from annual reports of cause of death statistics in Korea.
Major findings are as follows.
1. Scale parameters of Weibull distributions range from 58.5 to 65.1 during five years under study in male and range from 66.5 to 75.1 in femle. And in both sexes scale parameters show increasing trend.
2. Every year ages of male give higher scale parameters than of female, in accordance with more old-ages female deaths.
3. Shape parameters range from 1.39 to 1.82 during the five years in male and range from 1.25 to 1.73 in female.
4. For males ages 65 the proportion of cumulative hazard rates of injury and poisoning to all causes of death is 0.20, malignant neoplasm 0.19, liver diseases 0.11, and for females the proportion of malignatnt neoplasm is 0.15, cervrovascylar diseases 0.11 injury and poisoning 0.10.
